Description
The man in the middle of this picture is a fireman, making sure that none of the participants managed to burn themselves.
Usually, the people carrying the burning 'brooms' are accompanied by carts full of burning wood. Unfortunately, the ground was covered with ice and snow this year and they were worried that they might loose control of the carriages and burn the whole town to the ground.
I hope to go back next year and get shots of the burning carts.

Terrific details here, maybe town have burned down back in history and it's just taking good care to prevent such a horrible thing!

I gotta tell you, I think I've been permanently damaged, through too many Monty Python episodes and movies throughout the years. Or maybe it was one too many witch-hunting movies? But I find myself looking for Frankenstein, while thinking of the scene from Monty Python and The Holy Grail, in which the crowd is being asked "How do you know she's a witch?" and one replies "Cuz she turned me into a newt!"
