Description

"Spare me your pathetic platitudes you pretentious pile of pre-Pentium punchcard poppycock!" Okay, so Jonathan Harris never actually recited that particular "zinger" on the soundstages of 20Th Century Fox. Voice impersonator "Weird" Wally Fields said that one during a routine depicting the infamous Dr. Smith facing off with H.A.L. 9000. His delivery was uncanny! Ever since I obtained Xcalpro's B9 .CR2, I knew I had to team him with a likeness of of the Jupiter 2's inept saboteur. The other week while browsing the DAZ forums, someone needed a likeness of Moses. another forumite pointed him to 3dcommune.com and the Moggadeet's collection of "celebrity" morphs. I discovered among several others, he fashioned a likeness of Jonathan Harris/Dr. Zachary Smith. What luck! Now this version is slightly modified from Moggadeet's "face" pose (.FC2). I employed some settings from Beth Capsces' "Brom for Michael", primarily a few settings to widen the upper part of his skull, capturing Harris' distinctive triangular shaped features. Also, instead of the turtleneck velour outfit Jonathan wore throughout most of the series (mainly since I didn't have anything resembling it), I fitted M3 within an RAF uniform available from PoserWorld. While not an exact match, I think this ensemble looks more or less like the officer's uniform Harris wore in the first few episodes, back when his character was dangerously cunning. (In "The Reluctant Stowaway", he actually Karate chopped an armed guard unconscious!) Back on topic, this is my lil' homage to the late, great Jonathan Harris. *** *** *** Credits X7 Survey Robot: tonyo1701 @ xcalpro.com Science Fiction Construction Set: Davorama @ daz3d.com MIchael 3 and head morphs: daz3d.com Brom for Michael 3: Capsces @ daz3d.com Hag texture, V3 Morph Expansion Pack 1: daz3d.com RAF uniform for M3: PoserWorld.com Modified light set (freebie): Traveler @ runtimedna.com Modified Dr. Smith morph (freebie): Moggadeet @ 3dcommune.com *** *** ***

Thanks, Unicornst! I think was "sells" the Smith morph is his calculating smirk. You just know his plans will endanger the Robinsons! Sincerely, Bill

Gary Oldman? Sorry, but NO WAY!! Jonathan Harris was, is, and will always be the THE Doctor Zachary Smith. Thanks for a great render, this is huge poster material.

Actually, Bill_Wa, I didn't mind Oldman's performance in the '96 flick. His approach was like the Harris' Smith of the first 5 or so episodes, intelligent and dangerous. But , yeah, since Jonathan defined the role, it'll always be HIS character. MaPPer, how do you always post within an hour of my latest upload? Regardless, thank you for the kind words. Oh, I saw your latest render at Yahoo. Damn, "Yawg" in a serious scene?! Leave it to his real life counterpart to notice Holly was nude! Whadda' horndawg! Sincerely, Bill

I heard him in a radio interview just after the movie came out when asked if he wanted to do a cameo he said (paraphrasing) f*** no! they blooped him out. Great rendering!

Vkoontz, I too read that Harris turned down an appearance in the '96 flick in no uncertain terms. Supposedly, he would have played Oldman's superior, the one who appeared via a hologram. Again, supposedly, he didn't want to do it unless he played Smith. The role of the adult Will was originally intended for Bill Mumy, but being such close friends of Harris, he declined when Jonathan did. MartinW, a great concept? Eh, it's just two figures standing in a hallway. I guess it's who they are that makes it interesting to some. ;-) Sincerely, Bill

OMG I love this! What a beauty The Robot has always been my favorite of the Robots (Robby who) and even seeing him updated in the new movie was tolerable as long as he had the voice! I was hoping to hear and see more of him oh well!
