Description

"New Holland" is an 18th-century island shipyard complex, lacated on the small island in St Petersburg. Since its formation (in 1720s) it was meant for the needs of Naval department and connected with the development of St Petersburg as a shipbuilding centre on the Baltic Sea. In former times the brick buildings here were used as a warehouses for the storing and drying of timber for ships. They are now to be rehabilitated for modern offices, retail, restaurants, classrooms, and workspaces for the arts. A little sad. Thanks for viewing. Olympus 5050.

great picture - better restaurants than decay? (would you really want Peter the Great back?)

I think its better to give those great buildings a new destination than demolish them. Nice picture.

there is a brand of farm tractors here called New Holland. so they are going to put families in theree and I bet the place is full of pollution as most industrial complexes. still the building has lots of character and history. excellent pov

The potential is terrific and nostalgia reigns supreme. Memories wander throughout the buildings and await new memories to be made in the future. This will be a wonderful place to visit when it is finished. Thank you for the history lesson and for the great picture. HUGS!!!

Same things everywhere you go. The past is going and is going fast, especially where people don't care. Very nice shot of a very nice architectural landmark. Hopefully, the facade walls won't be ruined.

Wirklich schade um das alte, historische Gebde. Sie sollten es lieber renovieren. Sehr gute Perspektive und Details. Super Aufnahme!!!
