Description

Shop window in Tortosa, Catalunya. I was in Tortosa this morning. It has to be one of the strangest cities I have ever been in. The people were a fantastic mixture of gypsies and arabs. The rest of the population were wearing extraordinary theatrical clothes. Maybe it's one of those places built on laylines or something? I didn't photograph any of these characters. They just looked like they wouldn't like it. There is no postwork on this photo. The angel got there by herself and I didn't see her while taking the pic.

RELIGION, n. A daughter of Hope and Fear, explaining to Ignorance the nature of the Unknowable. "What is your religion my son?" inquired the Archbishop of Rheims. "Pardon, monseigneur," replied Rochebriant; "I am ashamed of it." "Then why do you not become an atheist?" "Impossible! I should be ashamed of atheism." "In that case, monsieur, you should join the Protestants." - Ambrose Bierce (1842 - 1914), The Devil's Dictionary

Vaya oportunidad ! La combinaci de esos objetos con el reflejo de la ni hace que esta foto tenga un punto bastante surrealista. Yo cre que ya no existn este tipo de tiendas en Espa. Increle la foto y el tema... me gusta mucho !

Nice work, Rozanne. As I scrolled down the page, I realised the scale of the shot. For a moment I thought it might be some church shrine, till I remembered that in Spain they tend to clothe the statues. I spotted a similar shop window, at an awkward, narrow five-way junction in Fuengirola, in 2004, but it was nowhere near a church. I was reminded of Spain yesterday, when we experienced an unseasonal, but welcome, very warm, sunny day in Glasgow. I was in shirt sleeves, shopping with my daughter, while the tourists were out in force, wearing waterproof jackets, trousers, hats and tall boots. Regards, John

A good deal of coastal Spain (Hispania) was under Carthaginan rule (Carthage itself was a Phonecian colony). Later the Arabs held the peninsular until the fall of Granada. There are many layers--Hannibal's troops were mainly Celtiberians (Celts from Spain). With the Fall of the Roman Empire in the West Vandals (Germanic) invaded....What? No Pope-Soap-On-A-Rope? Quelle dommage!
