Description

Living here in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario means being surrounded (literally) by vineyards. Our yard gives onto three vineyards.. one to the north... one to the east and the other to the south. Across the road to the west, there is a 25 acre parcel of land for sale... the sign reads, "Ideal winery location"... so it's probably just a matter of time.

A few short years ago, no one had ever heard of ice wine. These days it is a very lucrative product. The grapes must freeze on the vines for three consectutive days at (at least) -8 degrees celsius. Then they are picked by hand in the middle of the night... the hired pickers usually gather at 3am... and maybe it's the extremely cold temperatures... or perhaps they drink alot of "antifreeze" beforehand... but it sounds like a party out there... ;)

This is my attempt to capture the harvest in a fractal sense. UF with sig in PSP. Thanks so much for all of your gracious comments on my previous efforts... and for stopping by to have a look at this one. Hugs! Helen :)

Wow it does sound cold! I guess they need to take a nip of some of it to stay warm. A very lushious(?) and rich looking image! Well done!

What an interesting lesson and what a beautiful fractal. I had never heard of ice wine so did a search for it on Google and did some reading. Your fractal portrays it very well.

Never could afford the real thing but this fabulous image conjures up all types of scenarios ...hmmmm.....so cool, refreshing, mouth popping, lip puckering, pallette cleansing.....I have now wondered off into fantasyland of romantic nights...shouldn't do that... but isn't that what your images are intended to do? Stimulate the imagination? At least for me, you are the expert! Amazing what fractals can do!!!

it was some 20 or 30 years ago in Austria and then in Germany that glycol from anti-freezers were put into the "ice wine" to make them even more sweet and thick. After that scandal sweet wines nearly completely vanished from the shops here and wines like those from France or Italy or Spain were cultivated. - A very fine image btw :-)

I've never ever heard of ice wine. And the vineyards around you have white grapes, I gather. Lovely image.

I never heard of it either but it sounds like an interesting process and is probably quite delicious. A friend of mine owns a couple of small wineries in the Finger Lakes but I don't think he does anything like this. It must be quite the crowd of pickers that this attracts! Beautiful fractal, I think you've really succeeded in capturing the look and chilly feel of this.
