Description

This where I spend most of my time, when at home. My wife, Karen, calls it my "hermit cave." In a sense, she is correct; I tend to go there to escape the world. However, in another sense, it is my connection to the rest of the world. I have cyber friends in Idaho, Ohio, Germany, England, France, etc.--people so very precious to me. I always said of my twin brother and myself growing up in northcentral Kansas, that we were "ducks living in a chicken yard." For me, joining the 3D community of artists on the Internet is like having finally found the "duck pond." Except for my brother, who has been dead for a number of years, I really wondered most of my life if there was anybody else like me in the world. There are; and many are even more wonderfully craz--er, unique--than myself. The thing is, I really appreciate all of you, not just the few with whom I actually have developed a relationship, but those of you who come by regularly (if silently) and check out my gallery. You all mean more to me than you can ever know. Having said that, I want to say some things about the picture. I started it in the summer of 2005. Juli Jane Russell was just a small puppy and the other chair was pulled out and she was curled up on it taking about half the width of the chair as she napped. The trouble was that when I went to render the picture it would get about 63% antialiased and then stop. Very frustrating. Finally, went back and literally removed every object and replaced it. Found out that the wall objects were glitched. I replaced them with a new model before I could finally render it. Of course, I had to add a whole bunch of additional details. One such, was the "Just Another Sexy Bald Guy" mug that my wife got some years ago. I know I'm anything but, yet I love that thing. It actually has some hot steam, which appropriately enough, didn't show after the render. Typical! I love my coffee very hot, but usually I take one hot sip and then go obsessive-compulsive at the 'puter and by the time I take the second sip, it is usually tepid at best. All artwork on the walls are actual art works created by me and I made the shelf that the stereo sits on. The wallpaper for the far left computer is the actual one for that computer. The other computer screen has me working on the original version of this picture. I needed something more in the lower left corner, so added the wastebasket and put the other chair back and Juli Jane, now all grown up, curled up at my feet, which she tends to do these days. The fan on the floor by the doorway, is because we do not have central air, so the only way I can get cool air from the wall unit in the dinning room is to blow it in that way. Truthfully, my office is way more cluttered than it looks here. You might say it looks the way I wish it did. In actuality, there are a number of boxes stacked against the large shelving on the right just in front of where you'd be standing. (grin) There are a ton of wires behind the desk and its hutch (I just haven't figured out how to add them yet. (Will eventually.) CREDITS: Every thing is realistic and created by me using a digital camera and modeling in LW5, Anim8tor, and Bryce; except for the following: Most of the computer equipment and the stereo are freebies from the Net, as are the chairs. My alter ego is a Heavy P4 figure, but I added bald hair and beard. Juli figure is by Daio, adapted by permission from the SS Toy Dogs model by Silverleaf Studios (Poser Pros). Juli's texture adapted by me from Daio's "Toy Dog JR" texture. Toy Dog pose by Netherworks Studios. Self propelled howitzer model is from www.gunpoint.com. (It is what my Uncle Ford drove and repaired in WWII.) The model junk is also a Net freebie. A bunch of postwork in PSP5. Thanks very much for stopping by. Comments will be appreciated very much. Jeremy

Wow! This is a wonderful piece that took alot of time & care. The detail is incredible! I too know the feeling of being a "duck in a chicken yard", so I can relate with you on that level! Excellent work. Keep doing what you love to do!

Very, very cool. I was thinking of doing something similar but haven't started yet. Nice job with the modeling. It's interesting to get a glimpse into your world, your hermit's cave. It looks so cosy! Thanks for sharing this with us.
