Description

Image was taken back in January. It's a stack of about 20 shots. Someone commenting on a previous image relayed how the planets viewed at the eyepiece look artificial. I had a friend over the other night to ogle some heavenly bodies, and he said the same thing when looking at Saturn -- it just doesn't look real. I agree with them. Weird effect. My friend brought his little girl with him, and she was __so__ underwhelmed by anything in the eyepiece. Alas, with kids growing up in today's multimedia assault on the senses, I wonder if they'll ever come to appreciate The Wonder of it All. With ready access to images from large observatories and space-based telescopes, I guess the view through a backyard telescope is singularly unimpressive. Oh well. For me, there are few things more enjoyable than getting out under the stars.

I think it's still exciting to see that incredible planet through your own telescope. But I know what you mean. I was showing my kids the craters of the moon on a friend scope--they were interested for about 5 minutes. My friend and i looked at it for as hour. Great shot!

LOL It might have been me that said that, but for sure,I'm not the only one who's felt that way.I had said that when I saw Saturn for the first time,I thought it looked like a little glow-in-th-dark sticker and it didn't look real.I couldn't wrap my head around it for some reason, lol.I think it's wonderful you took this shot and are sharing it with us.Hope you'll share more!

I only wish I could see more than the moon and a few stars here in the center of a big city with the naked eye. Tell your friend to show his daughter a few episodes of Star Trek, or ET. Kids these days! If it ain't Spielberg, it ain't nuthin'! Excellent capture!

I get the same comments at the Star Parties I run. If I put my Webcam on the teslescope and show the same thing on my LapTop, I get hundreds of interested people. So I milk it, my computer controls were the telescope points, I use a GamePad to send commands, and the computer speaks to me with a sexy female voice. Only then does Saturn hold any charm for the Public.

Fantastic picture. People today are so bombarded by 'life', that they know nothing of being alive. What a tremendous Universe we have and if it isn't on TV or a video game they lose interest. My compliments and Thanks. HUGS!!!!

It sure looks better than anything I've seen in any telescope I've ever had. There's something to be said for the connection of looking directly at a heavenly body through a telescope through all of the thousands and millions of miles of distance. It puts our existance and place in the universe into perspective in a way that you can't get by looking at a website.

You must have a very nice telescope! I remember looking through my grandfather's when I was young, and his didn't capture anywhere near this much detail.
