Description

Trifles make perfection. But perfection is no trifle. -- Michelangelo A superstitious legend went that John, the beloved Apostle, would never die: a clarification given at the very end of the John's Gospel to dispel doubts. In the earliest available history written by Eusebios (Bishop of Caesarea Philippi, in 300 AD) in Greek tells, that Domitian the Emperor unleashed a violent persecution on Christian communities throughout the empire. When John was apprehended he was eventually thrown into boiling oil in a huge vat, in the middle of a stadium. The Emperor wanted to show the cheering masses that he could kill the man who would never die. John kept praying inside that boiling vat but nothing happened to him. In frustration and fury, the Emperor then exiled him to isle of Patmos, to make this 90 yr old man work as a quarry slave. Lonely, upon that island, in a crucible of suffering, illumined from above -- he was commissioned to write ( Rev 1: 9, 10). That's how the last book in the New Testament was written.

Interesting sky... But I think it would be better with a more detailed terrain and more surface layers.

This is fabulous in conveying the divine power descending on the island as the message to the churches is given to John. And how important the messages were for the churches. The light and power is still present in each of the followers. The translucent water is symbolic for me, indicating that nothing is hidden from God's eyes. Excellent image Noel!
