It's fun being an early adopter and practitioner of 3d art, and seeing how fast it has grown in such a short time. I remember in the 1980's seeing Pixar's 3d knight in the movie Young Sherlock Holmes and thinking I really want to do that someday. Back then they needed a Cray supercomputer just to do the rendering. Today we can churn images like this on decent desktop machines. It is truly liberating to create an entire virtual world, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for us all.BIOI first started creating 3d art in 1993, with the advent of KPT Bryce 1.0. I was an avid beta tester and contributor of images to the old HSC and KPT galleries on a very young AOL. Since then I've served on the faculty of every Brycecamp, consulted on the initial concepts of Mojoworld, and added Vue, Carrara, Poser, Mojoworld, Artmatic Voyager, and Electricimage Animation System to my arsenal of favorite apps.
I enjoy doing the occasional still life, but landscapes are my passion. I really enjoy being a 3d artist and using the creative and technical sides of my brain at the same time. The chaos of nature is difficult to recreate, but we keep getting better tools and faster computers. Instancing tools and fractal driven distribution schemes have taken us a long way to recreating that chaos and realism.
I love creating virtual worlds and environments and some day soon I would enjoy putting these skills to the test in a feature film or game.

Nice job, especially for just starting with Carrara's "outdoor" features. There is a lot of ability there if you can get a handle on it. I think you will like GeoControl also. I personally that Carrara is an almost untapped resource for creating environments that are as good or better than Vue even.

Thanks Patrick. I've always liked your landscapes in Carrara. All we need is volumetric atmospheres to have the complete landscape program. Right now in GC I am trying to get the effect of the debris and scree slopes you see at the base of the mitten buttes in monument valley, but so far no luck. I can get some great erosion, but it is difficult to get that amount. Terrains and terrain textures have improved drastically since C3. This is a great program. And you are right, until now it was an indoor studio for me. Not anymore : )

Looks very good indeed.

Could you try a test render with a little more ambient light and lighter sky? just curious. Models and layout are awesome.

Nicely done. Glad to see you have discovered the power of C5 for scenes. Loving it myself, though volumetric clouds can take a while to render :-)

Very nice work, there's only two things I want to figure out for the outdoor scenes that I can't seem to overcome. One is a high camera angle looking down. It's tough to blend the nice terrains to an infinite plane or many other terrains so that you can see a horizon. The other is the clouds, I love them dearly, but I can't get them scaled up without breaking into squares so for now I'm stitching them up or overlapping them, but I'll be glad to see them upgrade that in C6. Terrific work!
