Zandia checked the dim LED display on her stolen weapon. Two rounds. Was two rounds enough to buy her escape from this nightmare - the nightmare that had claimed all the others? Already the adrenaline was souring in her system. Fatigue was drawing her further towards hysteria. And then she heard them. Relentlous and indefatigable, the hunters were quartering off each section of the complex. She knew that all too soon there would be nowhere to hide. Though their horribly blank, black eyes saw as little in the darkness as she could they had other fearsome senses that were more acute that those of humans. And as each moment passed Zandia heard their almost imperceptible footsteps drawing closer to her. A sharp hiss erupted from just around the corner where she crouched. She caught her breath to listen, almost sobbing in her rising fear. The hiss shifted into a viscous, gurgling sound like a hideous laugh heard from under dark, stagnant water. But unlike the human sound that even in capture would be reassuring, this issued forth from an alien throat. A responding hiss awoke some metres away, and then another, and another. Zandia gripped her rifle tightly and prepared to round the corner...
