Description

Fort Henry,Kingston.Ontario Canada Once regarded as the Citadel of Upper Canada. The bulk of the Fortress as it exists today is as it appeared at the end of 1836. Surrounding towers and batteries were later completed by 1838.The fort is situated on Point Henry overlooking Navy Bay and the Dockyard. "Kings Town" was originally a French trading post "Cataraqui",Fort Frontenac originally located on the low ground near the harbour fell to the British in 1758 and by 1788 had established a Naval Dockyard at Kingston. The War of 1812 between the British and the Americans prompted a race to build warships. The rapids of the St.Lawrence prevented large sailing ships from entering Lake Ontario so they had to be built on the spot. The largest ship ever built there was the HMS St.Lawrence with 112 guns and a crew of 800 lauched in 1814.From Kingston the British could control access to Lake Ontario from both the Cataraqui and St.Lawrence rivers. In 1826 the Cataraqui began a transformation into the now Rideau Canal by a British engineer Lieutenant Colonel John By and was completed in 1832."By" doing so created a shipping route from Lake Ontario through the canal to the Ottawa river and on down to Montreal.Bypassing both portions of intense rapids and possible fire from Americans on the nearby southern shore of the St.Lawrence.Fort Henry never had it's defences tested. It was garrisoned over time by 33 different British regiments until 1867 and Confederation when the Canadian miltia took over the roll.It fell into disuse over the years till WWI when it was used to hold captured German soldiers. In 1936 during the great Depression the government employed 1000 workers for two years rebuilding Fort Henry to it's former glory.Again in WW2 it was used to hold prisoners of war.It reopened in 1948 as a war mueseum.Every summer for the past 40 years students have become volunteer soldiers dressed in the 1842-43 uniforms of the Royal Welch Fusiliers. My guards here are "aa's" heavily reworked and kitted out P4 workman and "Mock's" colonial rifle.(Bayonet and sling added) Everything modelled and rendered in Lightwave.Textures and bump maps created in PS7. Thank You for viewing! :B eaver !

I regret to say despite that I've used LW for many years I have not used it to it full potential(plugins etc..even still some of it's main features).I have a 2.9mhz PC and 1 gig of Ram.As yet none of my projects have been too much to complete using LW.That said future ideas may put this to the test.I found this program easy to use and it now has an excellent interface with Poser my second most favorite program.Thank you for your interest and comments.:B eaver !

I agree with your list too, with some caveats: (1) some on your list did not start out as blunders, but given enough time those in charge remedied that; (2) even the Americans have not yet managed to turn some of the ones on your list into great victories, hehe. Iraq is the second stupidest thing the United States has, in its whole history, ever done. Not to worry, given enough time, those in charge will make it the first.
