Description

About the arwork: Robert Silverberg is a writer who constantly amazes me, he is one of my preferred Sci-Fi author. Some years ago an italian publishing house ask me a test artwork for a book by Robert Silverberg. I was excited to do the cover for one of mine Science Fiction heroes. Here is the result... About Alien Years: (This text refers to the USA Hardcover edition) In the first decade of the new millennium, a sudden invasion by an alien species known only as the Entities brings about the swift and total conquest of Earth except for a small pocket of resisters led by Col. Anson Carmichael and his remarkable family. The latest novel by sf grand master Silverberg chronicles a half-century of struggle and frustration as generations of Carmichael sons and daughters strive to keep alive the concept of freedom in the face of overwhelmingly superior conquerors. Silverberg remains a superb raconteur whose patriarchal tendencies serve as a minor flaw in a remarkable study of human endurance and patience that belongs in most sf collections. I think the artwork is wonderful. I would like to know a bit more about what this specific scene is portraying. What is happening here? Is the large central red blast the landing thrusters? What are the smaller beams in a circle and radiating out? What are the rocks in the air about?

I like because the overall shape of the ship is very modern in design but yet still has the look and feel of the ships used in those old B Sci_Fi movies from the 40's & 50's. Wonderful work of art as always

Silverberg's a favorite of mine too, although I have to confess I've never heard of this book. Ever thought of doing TOWER OF GLASS or the UrbMons of THE WORLD INSIDE?
