Hello! Another picture! With ships! Most of these are work in progress, i am hoping to build a really good battle scene but i need help with two things! (1)Planets! no mater what i try they always look crap! HELP ME! (2)Explosions! can't do em.......not sure how really! Any ideas for creating decent laser fx or scenery (im just using Hubble stuff for backgrounds, i think it looks a bit pants!)good looking nebula's and such would be a great help..I'm really stuck.....AHHHHHh!!!AAnyway i hope you like the pic IainB

Lasers can be done with a parallel spot. Just make it laser been shaped (long and skinny), make the light visible, and then uncheck the "use falloff" option in the visibility tab. Render and voila...a laser....however, you might see an increase in your render times by using this method. The other problem with this method is that the laser will only cast light in front of it. So you won't have any light radiation and you'll have to exclude everything from the scene...just somethings to keep in mind. Excellent image.

I have faced the same challenges you mentioned with my space scenes. The easiest way to add planets is to get Universe 1.63. It costs only $20, is made specifically to create space backgrounds, and is great at adding running lights. The website is www.diardsoftware.com. An even better way to add planet is to create the space background in Photoshop and use the Lunarcell plug-in filter. There are lots of Photoshop space scene stuff including explosions in the Renderosity Marketplace. I have bought a lot of it myself. I use the 2D vector illustration program Coreldraw to add weapons fire to my ships. In general, I have found that a good 2D program is needed to finish off an image begun in a 3D program. Good luck on your work! :-)

It took around 12 hours to render this one! They need to come up with a Way of using the graphics card to render dammit! all that power..Unused, its stupid. As for 2-D Do you know of any relevant tutorials floating about on the web? I really don't have a clue when it comes to these things! Help I NEEED to get good at this! ITTSSS MMYYY BLOODDD! cheers! Brilliant image, with just one minor thing that slightly annoyes me. The Front Fins on the Mother Ship Seep to be at Different angles. Don't know if it's just the Camera Angle or the Alignment on the model was slightly off, but if the Far Fin could just be re-angled to look like its in the same position, this will be a masterpeice.
