Description

Made from a Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter terrain of the caldera in Apollinaris Patera, which is 40 degrees longitude east of Elysium Mons & 30 degrees latitude below it. Terrain conversion of this 128 bit binary was done using 3DEM. Anybody interested in downloading Mars terrain files for rendering can get it from http://pds-geosciences.wustl.edu/missions/mgs/megdr.html

Apollinaris is the name on the Mars Map for this particular geological formation. Not a name that I gave it. This is a caldera (formed by the blowing away of the cone of a volcano). This particular volcano is of intermediate age, with basalt flows, interbedded flows, pyroclastic material and vicious lavas.

Great surface work! I have been away from terragen for absolute ages due to delay in getting TGD out to the masses. This reminds me of the good work that can be done with the current versions...a very pleasing oasis of quality in an otherwise barren gallery!
