Description

"My candle burns at both ends; It will not last the night; But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends - It gives a lovely light." -Edna St Vincent Millay "Drifting night in the Georgia pines, coonskin drum and jubilee banjo. Pretty Malinda, dance with me. Night is juba, night is congo. Pretty Malinda, dance with me..." -Robert Hayden

While I don't think the quality of these images worthy of standalone gallery presentation, I'll take a cue from Andreas' (Zacko) "(S)craps-collage" and post one of my own. I feel together they give a nice warm impression of an evening in St. Marys. The photos were tripod taken on the second floor balcony of the St. Mary's Inn (bottom right) on the same night as the previous Our Lady image. The church would have fit nicely in this collage between the top right image and the bottom left and all of them are on Osborne Street, the main street. Visible through the trees are some of the shops and quaint little eateries of St. Marys. ----- St. Marys, Georgia St. Marys has been described at different times over the centuries as a bustling seaport, a sleepy tourist resting place, or a strategic military location. Close to the Georgia-Florida state line (on Route 40, off Interstate 95), it is located on the St. Marys River, within six miles of the Atlantic Ocean. It served as Camden County's seat from 1869 until 1923. Today many of its residents earn their livelihood by catering to the tourists who visit the St. Marys National Historic District, which includes beautiful nineteenth-century buildings, offices, and shops and the Oak Grove Cemetery. Established on the site of an abandoned Timucuan Indian village, Tlathlothlaguphta, St. Marys sits on land confiscated from two brothers of Royal governor James Wright. Their Royalist sympathies resulted in their banishment after the American Revolution (1775-83) and the loss of their huge estates. The history of the town's name is not clear. Accounts differ regarding the origin of the name itself

Interesting from the point of view of night photography and its inherent limitations in regard to "realism"....
