Description

"The exploration ship Palmer orbits Vir (Alpha Centauri A IV) during the 2184-7 expedition from the Atlantis (Alpha Centauri B IV) to the ACA planetary system. "The 292 meter-long ion-propelled ship was the first long-range vessel built at Atlantis. While coasting, the crew of about one hundred lives in the four 48 meter-diameter rotating habitat rings. The forward section houses ten main operations decks, plus a bay that houses six landers, various pods and vacuum-safe cargo." I'm not entirely happy with the planet texture. Realistic cratering doesn't seem possible with procedural textures, even when playing in the Deep Editor. Guess I'm going to have to do my own image textures and bump maps if I'm serious about making realistic airless worlds, but that will suck, since each one has to be hand-painted. (Note: The shading on the "dark side" of the world comes from the light of the second star of Alpha Centauri, not ambience.)
