Description

These Memorial Stones were in a row under the family name. Each had died within two years of one another during the era of the Civil War. Jehovah is my shepherd. I shall lack nothing. In grassy pastures he makes makes me lie down, By well-watered resting places he conducts me. My soul he refreshes. He leads me in the tracks of righteousness for his names sake. Even though I walk in the valley of deep shadow, I fear nothing bad, For you are with me; Your rod and your staff are the things that comfort me. You arrange before me a table in front of those showing hostility to me. With oil you have greased my head; My cup is well filled. Surely goodness and loving kindness themselves will pursue me all the days of my life' And I will dwell in the house of Jehovah to the length of days. Psalms 23; A Melody of David. PRAYERS FOR ALL !!!!!

Wow that is so so sad. Five sons to die so close to one another. I have lost three babies at full term but that could never compare to loosing five sons and them being young man. Their lifes were just beginning. Very sad image Claudia but true to our hearts:)

Wow. Great shot. I have just been photographing at an historical (around 1850's) chinese cemetary in Australia which was really striking and moving. Thanks for this.

Now, Claudia, this is a great shot. Composition, color, and DOF are all balanced just right. There is a clear sense of texture which significantly adds to the substance of the photograph. The subject or focus immediately makes you interested, to question what this photograph about. What was the artist thinking about, art, history or maybe just enjoying a lazy afternoon? Either way I see this photograph as a "Great."

War and the uncertainties of 19th Century medicine took quite a toll in the 1860s. A poignant reminder of things past.
