Description

I don't know if you folks follow the news of events down here in Colombia, but on the 22nd of May, ten members of an elite Colombian Judicial Police unit were killed while they were conducting a raid on a suspected cocaine 'caleta' (storage facility). This unit had been extremely sucessfull in dismantling numerous international drug trafficking organizations, and specialized in investigating and arresting corrupt police and military officials. On this fatefull day, 28 members of a Colombian Army Batallion ambushed this unit in full daylight and killed all ten officers. To date, eight members of the Army unit responsible for the attack - to include the Colonel in command of the battalion - have been arrested under charges of 'Agravated Homicide.' The Police unit's surviving members - who did not take part in the operation - are determined to rebuild the unit and continue their fight, despite the obvious risk to their lives. In honor of these brave individuals - and very good friends - who lost their lives in 'fighting the good fight,' I have dedicated my "Horizon" image - now titled "Jamundi" - in their names. "We shall never forget them"

Rather nice image,(if 'nice' can be used). As the demand of cocaine increases it is inevitable that somesthing like this will occur, and has occured many times before and will again in future. What country 'demands' the majority of the columbian coke?

Your salutation of their bravery is commendable. I wonder: "Why is cocaine illegal?" They answer: "Because it's BAD." I wonder: "Then why do people like it?" They answer: "Because they don't know it's BAD." I wonder: "Do people snort Strychnine?" They answer: "No. They know Strychnine is BAD." I wonder: "How?" They answer: "Shut up." I wonder if, in the long run, legalization of all these drugs might have less negative consequences than our current world-wide policies. (Note: I said "less negative" not "perfect".)The true culprit is profit. A drug's profitability stems from restricted supply. I suspect that any attempt to legalize these drugs would be met with fierce resistance from: A.The mob B.The (any) government C. The very 28 people(or their like) who killed your officers. The "military wing" of the mob. D. Every other "paid-off" individual who profits from the "status quo". If the drugs were legal, that whole network(and the PRICE) would instantly die. Maybe when drugs, and their effects, were more widely visible, people would "know better". Like they "know better" than to snort any other poison.

"Freud felt that cocaine would work as a cure-all for many disorders, and wrote a well-received paper, 'On Coca', explaining its virtues. He prescribed it to his friend Ernst von Fleischl-Marxow to help him beat a morphine addiction he had acquired while treating a disease of the nervous system. Freud also recommended it to many of his close family and friends. He narrowly missed out on obtaining scientific priority for discovering cocaine's anesthetic properties (of which Freud was aware but on which he had not written extensively), after Karl Koller, a colleague of Freud's in Vienna, presented a report to a medical society in 1884 outlining the ways in which cocaine could be used for delicate eye surgery. Freud was bruised by this, especially because this would turn out to be one of the only safe uses of cocaine, as reports of addiction and overdose began to filter in from many places in the world. Freud's medical reputation became somewhat tarnished for his early enthusiasm. Furthermore, Freud's friend Fleischl-Marxow developed an acute case of 'cocaine psychosis' as a result of Freud's prescriptions and died a few years later. Freud felt great regret over these events, which later biographers have dubbed 'The Cocaine Incident'...." (Wikipedia) Oops.
