Description

This photograph has been taken in an area called 'Biesbosch'. The history of the Biesbosch started in the middle ages. Nearby the city of Dordrecht there were numerous acres of farmers land, but on one bad day everything changed. As so many times the dikes broke. The effects of the incoming water were devastating. Many villages were washed away together with it's inhabitants. Think of what happened with New Orleans last year.. that scale. Nowadays the Biesbosch is a combination of huge and very small waters and vast land and very small islands. Very unusual is the fact that this land is scarsely inhabtitat.. to Dutch standards of course.

Hm, Biesbosch, that must have been the Elizabeth flood, though!? It was devastating but it left quite a special place of nature offering a special habitat to many animals and plants! Wonderful work, Oskar!
