Description

The Humboldt squid is one of the giant squid species that inhabits the waters off the west coast of Mexico around the Baha Peninsula. Sometimes they are refered to as flying squid because they can propel themselves out of the water. They grow to an average size of about 2 meters and have been known to hunt, for anything in the water, in packs of over 1,000 individuals. Their skin is covered with chromatospheres that can change color rapidly and many think that they use this as a form of communication. The suction cups that cover their tentacles are all lined with hundreds of "teeth" that grab on to their prey to draw it in to their razor sharp beaks. While they are fished commercially sometime to roles of fisher and prey are reversed. Thanks for viewing! Apophysis 2.02, minor sharpening in PSP
