Description

Apart from being the largest pigeon in the world about the same size as a Turkey in my opinion surely the most beautiful.. They are quite tame in the wild, and as a result came close to suffering the same fate as the Dodo which was another member of this family, and is found in the wild only in New Guinea and some smaller offshore islands nearby. Very little is known about them as they live in very dense forest this one was taken at Bristol Zoo. Having gone into the place on the way back from a trip to the local river estuary Thanks for taking time to look and any comments you care to make

What a strange-lookin' critter (referring to the spike mohawk plume on its head)! Gorgeous capture Danny! Have a splendid day my friend!

This wonderful an unreal bird is a cousin of the Dodo ? Thank you for this information. This one, with this extrem blue color is impressive and incredible. They are so difficult to be seen in the deep forests. There's another one, I've seen in Caledonia, the "Cagou" who is always hidden in the forest. A bird who don't fly if I remember well. Nature is so incredible, so rich in diversity. Every day we discover new things, new animals, new plants... as a book never finished. Always a miracle... Thank you for your photographies and all the information you give us Danny. Nice to be here with you. Have a nice evening my friend. Hugs.

Just stumbled on your gallery - LOVE your work! and, this is a mighty beautiful bird....only pigeons I am familiar with are the ugly grey ones that poop on the city benches! I have new found respect for the pigeon family, thanks to your great capture.
