A Tiger for Mea (Photoshop) www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php

I have been drawing since I was 11, some 33 years ago.
My 6th grade teacher, Mr. Knoss, was a great artist and I greatly admired his illustrations. He encouraged me to pursue my artistic interests at a crucial time in my development.
My High School art teacher "Vern", was also a great influence. He always challenged me to try different things.
I was lucky that my parents were very supportive of my interest in art. I studied at The Minneapolis College of Art and Design (1986-1990). Where I was humbled by many great artists that were far more talented than I. There it was that I rounded out my fine art skills, and then chose to major in Media Arts. Studied film, video and sound. Learned all the skills needed to shoot, direct, edit those mediums.
While pursuing a Media Arts major, I discovered computer graphics, still in it's infancy. This is where I came to an Epiphany. Here was a new medium, that incorporated everything I had previously learned into one new medium. Not only that, but it had new dimensions, interactivity, feedback, randomness, AI. I was hooked.
The next 17 years I learned and grew with the industry. Learning everything from how to create and manipulate digital imagery and create animations, to interface design and interactive authoring. My day job is an Information Architect, a fancy term for software interface design.
A few years back, my wife and I hit on some difficult times (As many people do) and it was during a very dark time in our lives that I discovered what became Renderosity, Initially I posted work, merely as a way to get myself back into the discipline of making new art.
I was delighted to find a world-wide community of talented artists, exchanging ideas and art!! I was thrilled! I have learned so much from you, and your art has brightened up my world. I am lucky to have made some great friends here, and I aim to do tributes to all of you!

WOW That is so funny and charming and amazing that you could catch this shot --and without a flash reflection in the window..super great fun to wake me up on the west coast !

Nana naaa na naaana is what the squirrel is saying to Yukon. Just wait until I get outside you fur-ball you.... is what Yukon is thinking..glad you were quick enough for this shot..great capture.

What a fantastic capture. I had something similar with a squirrel that walked right up to my cat while he was on the porch and just stared at him..freaked him out the cheeky little booger. LOL
killerpumpkins
My cat does the same thing. I often wonder what the animal on the outside looking in thinks, the grass is certainly not greener on the other side because there isn't any! Cool shot! KP

Once in a lifetime photo op! Wowzers Eric! This is simply fantastic! I'm a big squirrel lover and have one that takes nuts out of my hand. Another lives here and has no tail. A pregnant female just drowned in my neighbor's mini pool and I was heartbroken for her. You see I get quite attached to them :) My late neighbor, Skeen, and I saw one in his bird feeder and snuck up behind it while it was busy swallowing as much seed as possible. He touched its tail and you would have thought he had been shot out of a cannon. Weeee...out into the yard he flew. He stopped, turned around, chattered at us and ran off. We got such a kick from it :) Tormenting poor animals, lol. Thanks for sharing :)

Our cat did the same thing. Occasionally if the "TV Show" was another cat right outside the window. she would literally fling herself at the window trying to somehow penetrate the glass. Critters are always quick to amuse us.

Text For TwoPynts: Gotdang it, robo, they needed you in the Spanish Civil War! Absolutely brilliant photojournalism shot that could never be properly staged, and is there only for those with an eye, reflexes, a gun camera (like the jet you shot out of the sky a long while ago), being always prepared (no "Where's my camera? Shoot, no film!" and so forth). Okay, now the image that robo snatched out of the world around him, TwoPynts. Notice the triangles: first the dog's ears, which, with the tree, give the vertical axis, then the dog, the squirrel, and the bird feeder, which gives both the horizontal axis (skewed) and what I call the "semantic axis". The "semantic axis" includes the subtilty that there is no bird in the picture because there is a squirrel in the picture, and by the same token the squirrel is about to be out of the picture because the dog is in the picture. Even more interesting, there is no bird in the picture, a squirrel trying to exit the picture, and a dog in the picture because Mr. Robo Lindeman had the camera in his hands and took the picture in the first place. Therefore, there are at least two entities in the SEMANTIC ANALYSIS of the picture which are in the picture because they are not in the picture, to wit, the bird and Robo Lindeman, the taker of the picture. Taking this as a starting point, it is also obvious that the bird and robo are not "NOT in the picture" in the same way. This because the bird that is not in the picture did not take the picture, but the robo that is not in the picture did. The picture, therefore, has all the supremely effective elements of spontaneous action photography, including the idea of motion and change, and catching actuality in PROCESS, that which is in the state of BECOMING something else, past and present. Thus the shot taken tells you something else happened just BEFORE the shot was taken, and also tells you that something else happened just AFTER it was taken. On the simplest level this is essence of the ancient Greek definition of PHYSIS ("Becoming" or "Changing"). In the context of photography and narrrative it is the essence of story-telling. Thus, through one still image, robo elicits a whole narrative in the viewer's mind and mind's eye. If this is not genius I don't know what is, and it is the genius of Zen and spontaneity as well. How many years did it take robo to get to the point of distilling in a split second the esssence of an action shot, and more important, realizing both that he had it at hand (in Heidegger's sense), AND had the ability to do it? One will notice also that robo too appreciates, qua critic, an analogue of this spontaneity in the elegant brush strokes of the artist gabrima, which only a few on this site have the eyes and technical sophistication to see, but which requires the same split second brilliance of capture with a brush that is evidenced with a camera here. This of course only skims the surface of this masterpiece. Watch and learn, TwoPynts, and to Digimon I say: Great photograph, robo--you must have a good camera!

I'm sure the squirrel was laughing and saying nya-nya! I'm equally sure Yukon's ears were as perked as a couple of boards. heh heh! Excellent capture, Eric! @Burpee: shame on you! The next time you creep up on a squirrel, bring your camera! hehe!

This is a great capture! :) Reminds me of my Cat years ago. He was an indoor - outdoor cat, and then I moved unto a houseboat, where he had to stay indoors. Woody was his name, and the seagulls used to peck at the window and drive the poor guy nuts! Finally I took him up to stay with my Mom. Lived to be 12yo! And he was my last pet.

meeting of the minds in all ways........great!!

A split decision by the tree...for all to see...but no T.V. ! lucky capture Eric... my cat actually watches T.V., but only Ren & Stimpy ! Cheers

What a great shot through the window. The squirrel looks as though he doesn't know whether to go up or down or stay where he is with his camoflage.
butterfly_fish
I love Yukon! :-) How great is that??!! I'm feeling the puppy joy.

I didn't see the squirrel at first because I was looking at the bird feeder. Super story in this although I would have liked it with a bit more focus. Who am I to talk? Whenever I put on my reading glasses I see that most of mine are slightly out of focus too. My dog, Arthur, stares at things that are not there. At least not in this world, anyway.
Richardphotos
one chance capture Eric and you pulled it off. those durn rodents will torture dogs. just staying out of the reach but close enough to keep the dog going.I told a client that I took a picture of a squirrel robbing seed and she asked"from my feeder?"they told me it would be rodent proof!!it was hanging upside down by two feet reaching into the "squirrel proof feeder"
jocko500

TwoPynts
LOL! What Hoppy said! ::wink!:: Spontaneous brilliance!
Naichan
Either you were extremely quick off the mark, or else that squirrel is stuffed! Either way, it's a cheeky little pic :-)
Forevernyt
What TwoPynts said! :)
SkyeKat
Cool pic - but if it had been my 14 cats at the window, the squirrel might have just lay down and died. LOL
Margana
LMAO!I have three hounds...and they go absolutely berserk whenever a squirrel comes near. And being quite large, the scratches from them jumping at the windows and doors runs to about 7 feet high....so you can imagine how wonderful the wooden frames of them look, lol. At least yours just sits there.Lucky you.Me?I'm constantly sanding and repainting.LOL There's almost no wood left!Damn those squirrels.Sometimes I think they sit there just to laugh at and torment my dogs, lol.Funny upload,Eric. Thanks for sharing and sorry for my useless ramble.Have a great day/night/week.-M :^)
