Description

The syrphidae are famous for their bee and wasp mimickry, but this fly goes the extra mile - it uses its front legs to mimic the jointed wasp antennae of the Vespids. When the fly lands, it hold its front legs up in front of its face and waves them about. The effect is really quite convincing when you see one strike the pose. Also, the clouded leading edge of the wing mimics the appearance of wasp wings http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Syrphid_fly_Temnostoma.jpg http://www.cirrusimage.com/fly_syrphid_Temnostoma.htm I shot these in my garden yesterday morning. I think there was a female and two much larger males trying to court her thanks for viewing and comments. canon rebel xt and I used 3 different lenses including Sigma 105 macro

Fantastic! I am totally amazed at the quality of detail in your photos. I have never seen anything quite like it, even in the scientific books that depict close-up images. Your images have a quality of colour and detail that brings the image into the realm of Fine Art.And last, but not least, you have a real top class style.
