BIO:
Okay, time for an update. ^^
I'm still trying to find my way through the 3D world, having started with 3D Studio Max, moved to Lightwave 3D, which I stuck with for several years, and am now trying to learn Maya, which has had my attention since I got to be a part of the launch of this amazing software so many years ago.
I've been everything from a Custodian to a Jr. SysAdmin, Call Center Rep., New Media Designer, Computer Salesperson, Computer Tech, Software Demo Jockey, and Bank Teller. I've done a good amount of freelance work on the side, doing logos and web designs for various clients, and a few small shorts for a convention here or there. Lately, I'm trying to get back to my roots in working on 3D stuff more seriously, and I hope to someday be able to find steady paying work in it. I love the idea of photorealistic 3D visualization, as can be seen by some of my older work, and I hope to get back into that once more, but in Maya this time. I'm a part-time photographer, having done work from nature to landscape to pets, and I hope to be able to make some money doing this part time as well.
I should also note that I'm going through these books:
Learning Maya 7 | Foundation (Halfway through this one)
Learning Maya 7 | The Special Effects Handbook (This one just arrived 2 days ago and will be my next project)
As I'd mentioned before, here are some things I am interested in as they apply to graphics and 3D work:
- Photorealistic Renderings/Visualizations
- HDRI
- Photorealistic Texturing
- Organic Modeling
- Nature Photography
- Landscape Photography
- Macro Photography

Thank you. :)

Weapon like a weapon, but that wooden table!:);) Very good material settings [as for the weapon, too]. I
m now struggling with one in Blender and it
s a crazy job. I hate wooden furniture!!;)oodmb
ok, this could use hdri or some sort of environment map for the model to reflect. and maybe a bevel on the table

Actually, when I tried HDRI, the metal on it came out way to... what's the right word... hyper-realistic. It looked more like liquid metal a la Terminator 2. Though I will agree with you on the table/background. Granted, this render wasn't meant to show off a scene, it was meant to see if I had learned enough about modeling in Maya to get this far. ^^ Had I done this as a full scene, there would have been a workbench and some other models of parts and books and what not to set a much more interesting mood. ^^ Thanks for the advice, though. ^^

try it again and on the metal shader just decrease the reflectivity ALOT, fuck around with it til you like it. its pretty amazing though. other then that the hdri might take of the plastic its looks a bit fake. looks like youre using a phongE, swtich to regular phong, increase the cosine and the specular color, and again with the reflectivity try it around .2. do try beveling the table. or you could angel it more upward to get rid of the edges. itll take alot of time to get a better looking render. if you do deside to change it up. let me know. ID REALLY love to see it with those changes. it would be CGS worthy.
