Description

The Dark Orb The blue orb oozed latent power. Its supporting column was drenched in freezing droplets. The strange orb was surrounded by a coruscating field of energy that allowed nothing to penetrate to its surface, nor that of its support. Perhaps the column wasn't just a support? Maybe it housed the orb's controls as well? But the oddest thing was that no one could remember a time when the orb had not been there. Orb created by Fran Baker in Bryce, wineglass ditto but created in Wings3D. The droplets on the column isn't a texture those are metaballs, the column is a Bryce boolean thingie made by me. Come to that so are the two circular discs on the floor of the chamber... or warehouse. The blood in the big disc? well I dripped a lot while banging my head against the wall seemed a pity to waste it. (the blood dribbling down the side is more metaballs) The silvery liquid in the other one is probably Unicorn's Blood very efficacious in certain circumstances. I'm pretty sure the staircase was a freebie from Rendo's freebies or it might have come with Bryce - but in any case it's by Jean-Pierre Lapointe. The texture on the walls is by Darcy Rollo and was on the buildings Darcy designed for the Bryce List Feb 2004 Challenge. I changed the texture on the floor from the red tile texture to my own Galvanised metal made by me in PhotoShop mainly because I wanted something with a blue tint. The orb is Deep Blue water and another sphere with Clay's Volumetric fire tweaked a bit by me. There are now 18 lights in the scene, the stronges is the blue one inside the orb at an intensity of 35 with linear fall off. The others are arranged in a cross pattern up in the ceiling, with alternating white lights at an intensity of 1 and blue lights at an intensity of 3 all these are set to a ranged fall off of 10. Er... I guess that's about it.

Don't touch the orb I said don't touch the orb. Cool render. Volume stuff is fun but time consuming.

Cool image. What was you final render times? By the way I had to use my dictionary to look up some of your words. An educated lass you are.

Great orb render. You can probably get more glow out of it with some level tweaking in photoshop. Anyhow, nicely done!

Skilwillgee, It was 1 hour, 06 mins and 21 seconds... according to Bryce. Sorry, I meant to put that info in the blurb. (I do like the sound of that word "corruscating" - I use it whenever I can. gg)
