Description

Hi, This little guy was in a tree in my front yard. As you can see he camouflages very well with the tree. He stuck around so I decided he was living in the tree did more investigation and discovered is an eastern screech owl and that they like to nest in dead trees. I had been contemplating removing the tree since moving here. I had never noticed the owl before but after recognizing the erie song it sings I realized I had been hearing it since I have been here. I decided it was nesting. Then one day I came out and as usual checked to make sure he was there and he was so I went about my business and was standing back away from the tree. I looked up and there above the bird you see pictured was Mom and two chicks. I cannot tell you the excitement that came over me. It was daytime and these are nocturnal birds of prey. They where aware of me but didn't pay much attention to me but as dusk appoaches these birds wake up!!!!. Oh if you have a dead tree and you live in an area where there are owls please leave it up for them.... Comments and Ratings always welcome Peace and Love

Owls can get huge. I was walking home one night years ago when big one flew out of a tree stump. Scared the hell out of me. It was dark, so I didn't know what it was till it hooted. :)

nice shot, you are lucky to see these small owls like this. (the lettering is a nice idea but much too big, it messes up our view if the bird's head, imho).
