I don't know if cats and dogs dream, but I think they do. My Whimpy always thought he was a lion when he was outside the house. He'd challenge any animal, and he spent a lot of time in the hospital because of it. So, I've portrayed him as a lion here, dreaming of his younger days... With a kind saint to keep him safe until we meet again. When I first met him, he was a kitten about 16 months old, and that was 18 years ago. He belonged to a neighbor who didn't want him, and mistreated him. Whimpy liked my cat Scooter, and loved to come into my house to visit. When I told my neighbor that his cat was always at my house, he told me to keep him, so I did. Whimpy loved to be held, and had a cute little whimper to get attention. I held him constantly, and he purred louder than his wimpers... He was afraid of people as a result of his prior mistreatment, and would hide under my bed when anyone came to my house. His trust for me grew into trusting others. He was a sweet gentle and loving pet. I had to have him put to sleep today because he could no longer walk or even stand. I've had him to the vet's several times in the past two weeks because he wouldn't eat and was losing weight rapidly. They could not help him, the medicines had no effect, so they gave him fluids each visit to keep him from suffering. They asked me to let them end his suffering. I hoped and prayed he would somehow recover, and wanted to give him every possible chance. It broke my heart to have to do this. So, this image is dedicated to my sweet loving Whimpy.
