"The universe is still a place of mystery and wonder." -Sir Martin Rees
"No object is mysterious. The mystery is your eye." -Elizabeth Bowen
"Mystery is at the heart of creativity. That, and surprise." -Julia Cameron
Mysterious. That is what I think of when looking at this scene. An explore who has found the "Lost World," or a hiker in Hawaii who has trekked thought the jungle and stumbled upon this baubble left by the goddess Pele. What really strikes me about this glass art is how well it fits into it's environment. It seems perfectly natural (though still mysterious) for it to be there. Note how well the greenish glass "columns" blend into the jungle on the left. ----- DALE CHIHULY - Glass Sculptor (1941-present) Chihuly grew up and graduated from high school in Tacoma. Supported by his mother after his brother George's death in a flight-training accident in Florida and his father's death of a heart attack, he had no intention to continue his education until his mother convinced him to enroll at the College of the Puget Sound (now University of Puget Sound) in 1959. A year later, he transferred to the University of Washington at Seattle, where, though he studied interior design and architecture, he first tried glassblowing. In 1967 he received a Masters of Science in Glassblowing from the University of Wisconsin. In 1968 he received an Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture at the Rhode Island School of Design, where he later helped establish the school's glass program. In that year he also received a Fulbright Fellowship, and went on to become the first American glassblower to work in the prestigious Venini Fabrica on the island of Murano. Along with several other glass artists, Chihuly founded the influential and inventive Pilchuck Glass School in 1971 in Stanwood, Washington. Chihuly lives and works at his 25,000 square foot (2300 square meter) studio on Lake Union. Since losing the vision in one of his eyes in an automobile accident in 1976, Chihuly (who wears an eyepatch) no longer has the depth perception necessary to handle the molten glass himself. Instead, he conceptualizes each project with paint and canvas and then employs a team of artists to do the handiwork. In 1991, Chihuly began his Niijima Floats Series, some of the largest blown glass pieces in the world, at the Niijima International Glass Art Festival in Japan. This exhibition at Fairchild Garden in Coral Gables, FL anlong with another at the Missouri Botanical Gardens were his most recent showings, with the next opening at the New York Botanical Gardens in July. That look like a big giant mutated strawberry that escaped from the garden. RUN BERRY RUUUUUUN!!!! #:oP I agree with what youre saying. It does indeed look very natural for it to be there. Hope you get to have a grand weekend Kort! #:O)

Very Mysterious indeed. Maybe even a wormhole leading into another universe. KP

Amazing image! For some reason, "The Prisoner" BBC show comes to mind? Though that was a white ball. Love the reflections on the ball!! I have to say, having blown glass on one occasion, it takes some pretty strong lungs, and swift punte action to make a globe that big!!! Serious skills needed to create these magical bubbles! Hope you have a wonderful weekend Kort! Chihuly-huly!!

Brilliant image, and brilliant continuation of the series. The ball rolls between pools overland on catfish fins, hehe. The same mystery attaches to suddenly running into bright red (poisonous) "horse apples" on some high trails....

I'm glad you mentioned the green glass columns. They look so natural I missed them.Mysterious is exactly the right word for this.It is odd how unnatural it is and yet how well it fits in with this environment.Another wonderful capture of that exhibit.Well-composed and perfectly balanced.Excellent work,Kortalouche!Have a most fabulous weekend!-M :^)

These creations certainly blend in with the foliage. The red one looks like a great big puffball and you have to look hard to see the green ones. Love all the info you have given us, much appreciated. This is a great shot with super lighting.

surreal like. I remember seeing on the scince channel or something like that someone made big round rocks and place them in the woods. This was done a long time ago. So long no one knows who or why they was made. They had someone make one with the same type rock and with tools that stone age man had. He did ok but it did not turn out as round as the real ones. But he showed it can be done and to get it round you need to do it some more. and it took him a few days to do it too

TwoPynts, you changed your avatar! That is a beautiful slash-your-way-with -a-machete jungle photo and the spectacular orb is obviously extraterrestrial.
