Description

Earl was eight years into a long sentence. Since he didn't cause trouble, he was given the box of chaulk he asked for. Guards thought it kind of funny as they watched the day to day progress of the window he was drawing. Earl drew the bars and everything. Then one morning, the guard saw that Earl was gone. One by one, the guards gathered around and looked at Earl's window. The bars were now drawn to look bent and broken outwards. *** Inspired by a comment by davidoblad on yesterday's image about a prisoner getting one of my window posters. Making this image I recalled that neat Spielberg movie- Amazing Stories, where a WWII bomber crew is coming back to base and can't get the landing gear down. Below the plane, in a gunner's turret, a crewman can't get out and will obviously not make it if the plane skids to a landing. He starts drawing a cartoon version of the plane with the landing gear down. Just as the plane comes in, they prepare to crash, but suddenly big cartoon-like wheels pop out and the plane miraculously lands safely. They get the artist out and away from the plane and he's in a trance. When they snap him out of it, the cartoon wheels vanish and the plane falls to the ground. Wow.

Awesome stuff; talk about the power of Art. Reminds me of your piece with the old man who draws himself a door out of his house or something...

This is really super cool David. Wonderful imagination and truly excellent realization of your vision. Big time Bravo!!! I also saw that movie and was one of my faves. Along with the night-gallery episode of the troubled man looking at the picture of the fisherman. Anyway, to my faves with this one. Going on vacation next week, all week, back again in about 7 days... Best to you David from another Dave :^)

What really amazes me is not only the quality and originality of your work, but the speed at which you can produce it. Perfect work. So good to see someone at the top of their tree.

Nicely executed! "Amazing Stories" was my favorite serial when it was on back in the day and the episode you described was one of my favorites, the other being the ghost train that made its final run though the living room after a couple's son discovered abandoned railroad tracks in their backyard. What a show...
