Description
Found this dead snake while driving on Skyline Drive. Size, hmm, i guess 3-4 foot long, species i do not know.
Was really seduced to do some close up pics, but knowing next to nothing about snakes, i didnt get to close (upps, the "anti-hero" story).
Does anybody know what kind of snake this is?
ps: maybe a Black Ratsnake?

Sadly it is a dead "Bull Snake" and they are field snakes that help keep the rodent population down. It is non-poisonous and actualy is a great pet. Enjoys being handled and has a long life considering. I had on for about 5 years. I hope that knowing this, if it is still there you will move it off the road, so others don't keep running over it. Now for your photo. I too, do photography and the contrast between the asphalt and the snake is Excellant. Ariana

Sad, and unfortunate that a lot of drivers will try to dodge most things but I see many a driver swerve to hit snakes intentionally. Good picture However...

Sad to see this one's ending. We have so many here that are not 'nice' snakes, that it is a shame to see the good ones killed. Thanks for sharing and next time maybe you will be able to find one alive. BTW, should you come across a dark snake with a blunt tail that does not taper off, go as fast as you can in the other direction. Cottonmouths are like that. A good 'Snake Book' is a valuable item to have. Big Hugs!!!!

Wonderful contrasts here in this great shot. Hard to tell he is dead. I'm like you I wouldn't get close either.
