Description

Yesterday, when I was cleaning out my darkroom, I found an old book in German that introduced the new Ilford Multigrade paper. It made me realize that that which I now consider very normal (and also, I can't imagine printing my photos without multigrade paper!), was a revelation for people (such as my very talented mother) before my time. There was this one photo in this book, that demonstrated the use of gradation 5, my favourite. And I tried my best to reconstruct it in C4D. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Cloth, hair and hat were modeled in C4D, with V3 as a model. One spotlight, one illuminated plane and 25% radiosity were used. I'm still not happy with the hair, so I might revisit this one later on. And I'm rather proud of the fact that this is one of my few renders that needed absolutely no postwork. ;) Have a great day/night, Sabra

This is a superb render, it is so photographic in its appearance. The details on the hat are wonderful (I feel a career in millinery beckons LOL!). The monochrome look only goes to add more depth to the image. Top work!

Great blackness, beautiful grays and white highlights, yes, it seams that you use multigrade here. What kind of paper developer do you use? Excellent photocopy! ;)) Strata

I agree with all of the above, especially MINTY! The hair around her face is divine and natural looking. It gives a quality of innocense It is only at her back that I can see where you might be unhappy with it. Just below her shoulders her hair seems to take an unnatural curve outward. It is also at this point where it seems to lose its natural fullness. The line from the inside end of the hat and to that point just below her shoulders is perfect and natural. As the weight of a large brimmed hat does this to hair. How should I say, weighs it down. If you followed that line from above her shoulders, made the hair thicker (in color) from this point on it would have that natural appearance. But do keep the curve and wisp at the very tip. That not only adds beauty and a more natural state, but gives is a subtle touch of sensuality. I do hope I haven't offended. It's what I see. This is the thing that gives this away as being a render. Because otherwise, not a soul would be able to tell that whether or not if this was a render or photo. You should be proud of yourself. I for one find this suitable for framing. ~Michelle~
