A Tiger for Mea (Photoshop) www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php

I have been drawing since I was 11, some 33 years ago.
My 6th grade teacher, Mr. Knoss, was a great artist and I greatly admired his illustrations. He encouraged me to pursue my artistic interests at a crucial time in my development.
My High School art teacher "Vern", was also a great influence. He always challenged me to try different things.
I was lucky that my parents were very supportive of my interest in art. I studied at The Minneapolis College of Art and Design (1986-1990). Where I was humbled by many great artists that were far more talented than I. There it was that I rounded out my fine art skills, and then chose to major in Media Arts. Studied film, video and sound. Learned all the skills needed to shoot, direct, edit those mediums.
While pursuing a Media Arts major, I discovered computer graphics, still in it's infancy. This is where I came to an Epiphany. Here was a new medium, that incorporated everything I had previously learned into one new medium. Not only that, but it had new dimensions, interactivity, feedback, randomness, AI. I was hooked.
The next 17 years I learned and grew with the industry. Learning everything from how to create and manipulate digital imagery and create animations, to interface design and interactive authoring. My day job is an Information Architect, a fancy term for software interface design.
A few years back, my wife and I hit on some difficult times (As many people do) and it was during a very dark time in our lives that I discovered what became Renderosity, Initially I posted work, merely as a way to get myself back into the discipline of making new art.
I was delighted to find a world-wide community of talented artists, exchanging ideas and art!! I was thrilled! I have learned so much from you, and your art has brightened up my world. I am lucky to have made some great friends here, and I aim to do tributes to all of you!

You gottah someah nice lively lines there, DR. D. Ball point pen or one of them liquid jobs. Concept ready to fly, er, pounce--great comic book cover on the top. Starship Troopers yes--Buenos Aires, right? And the movie is one of those really first class, very stylized, excellently conceived and executed flicks that never got the critical kudos it deserved....Got a NAKED BROAD QT QB too, hehe. Never understood the appeal of the t'other one. Annette Funicello syndrome?
Digimon
Quite right Professor! Many people missed the humor in Troopers, when it opened with the old WW2 style "News from the war" bit, I knew it was going to be a hoot. Then famous lines like "They sucked his brains out!". Many missed the fact that it was a satire of sci-fi movies of that time. Also the body bouncing of the shuttle windshield! Good times...good times....

when you finish the project with sound --up load it to Putfile -You Tube -Zippy Video or any number of new sites that allow HUGE files...then put a reminder as to where you plopped the 'the pasty resistance' so we CAN see the final.. so there...I betcha ....by gum !

my favorite tool...well for 2Dee ! I prefer BLACK ones...they go 20% faster ! interesting character design and that was the funniest movie I have ever seen, well almost, it also had some decent 3Dee FX, looking forward to your 3Dee version, Cheers
skiwillgee
You're sure multi-talented, Eric. I'm one of those disappointed in the flick. I read about all of Heinlein's books and shorts and looked forward to the movie. I was disappointed in the "campy" slant the movie took. I thought the book was awesome.

Wings can model it easy !! As to what program you animate with ==my choice is bryce 5 . would be cool as a animation and most of my stuff starts crappy sketches also. Trick to it is model whole critter as once but DO NOT COMBINE any moveing parts.Name each part as you go and any duplcated parts slightly change a tiny bit as well as it's name with each dup. Kinda got a crawdad/scorpin flavor about it. Cool concept --Peace!!

Hey! Didn't that guy have a starring role in "Men In Black" with a stint in "Starship Troopers?" It'll be cool to see how this develops. Yeah, and as Robo suggested, upload it so we can all see it. :-)

Cosme..D..Churruca
This promises... go on please !
oscilis
Yes please, put it on YouTube and let us know when. I love to see inside people's sketchbooks so this is really interesting. Go to YouTube and type in "Matt Harding" in "videos". You have to see him dancing even though it has nothing to do with this!
Mea
Keep us posted. Would love to see how this li'l epic project progresses. BTW: are you going to segment the long thin one or are you going to have it move like a worm? Just cuirous. :) Hav a good 4th!
chimera46
This would look really cool if you could pull it off, good luck with it.
TwoPynts
What an awsome teaser, it is a pleasure to view your brain scribbles in their earliest development!

I have hexagon but have not created anything worth a hoot. also sitting on Carrara. excellent drawing and I look forward to the animation showing at neighborhood theaters

this does me dream: that when the quantistic microprocessor will be sold in the supermarkets we will be able to create with the immediateness of a sketch and some cheap hardware the our living dream...
Svarg
Shades of ILM! Looks like a great project! I'd love to see the final result, sound and all.
lemonjim
oh man, can't wait to see it wherever it gets posted.
SkyeKat
Great sketches - those are going to be some rather frightening creations when you're finished - extremely predatory, and quite spectacular!
jocko500
guess I do things backway. I cannot draw and I got no ideal what to do[most the time] when I start doing things. Most of it is off the wall and The ideals just comes to me so I do them. I do write some down for I can not do it at the time but then I loss the paper lol. So I have to relay on menory at that time. these look super to me
Forevernyt
Troopers was in line with Robocop. Both movies were new and cool for their time. I really want to see this when it's finished, then you can give it to me to render. :) Keep at it!
Margana
Loved that movie, too! Can't wait to see the finished result,Eric.I know it will be awesome. Thanks for sharing!-M :^)
Burpee
I love this peek inside your demented mind ;) Your creatures are interesting and, like above, I would love to see the final. Bug lady looks deadly....would be cool to see her in action.....please :)
Li-An
Great sketch work Eric!
butterfly_fish
Hon, your "rough" drawings are better than anything I could come up with if I worked on it for a month. lol. Didn't see Troopers, because the book bored me to death. But I'm with you on the coolness of Teyon. ;-) Good luck with this. I'll be waiting to see how it turns out! :-D
kenmo
Cool concept...
