Description

I re-did the explosion with special thanks to Monsoon from 3DCommune with the free explosion, but I modified it a lot. what do you think? I also added a lighted dome at the rear of the ship that should of been on the old ship... The Klingons fire 4 Photon Torpedos...Admiral Kirk attempts to evade...fires a Phasor blast...will it be enough...enough to save the ship...to save Earth...So Close To Home. Original Klingon Mesh by William Burningham Conversion to 3DS by Erik Timmermans. Enterprise Mesh by Eric Peterson Detailed Texture Mapps/materials and extra 3D Detail and lighting effects by Matt Allen. I redid most of the enterprise textures, and all lighting by me...What do you think of the explosion from the Phasor blast? I hope you enjoy this! Let me know what ya think :)

One possible suggestion; to re-size the ships slightly, to convey a sense of depth..maybe put the K'tinga-class ship farther away, to give emphasis to the Enterprise. Great use of color and effects, that's coming along nicely. Only other thing to consider is the Klingon weapons..I'd try to make the 2 in the middle in a straight line towards the Enterprise..one trick I've used in the past is to put a small radial light of the same color as explosions, etc close to the action. The hard part is getting the range right; too much 'reach' on the light and you light up the moon and spoil the illusion (guilty as charged..;) Keep up the good stuff, can't have too many Star Trek pics out there..

hmmm never thought about resizing the ships for depth, the klingon one is smaller...but maybe it could be smaller? I intentially put the torpedos in an arc to convey a sense that they were being shot at different times (as the ships are chasing each other). As to the light, there is a point light smack dab in the middle of the explosion and it is set to only affect the explosion itself. It even has a touch of volumentric lighting in it to hopefully make the desbrie stand out and look like its travling. Now some Klingon fans may want the Enterprise to be smaller! hahah

Hate to offer a contrary opinion, but I think the positions and scales are commensurate with the imagery from the shows: Everything was done in tight formation, which gives immediacy to the action and adds drama. As for the torps, my first impression was that they were flowing, even being overtaken by the pursuing vessel in its haste. The story sucks, though. :D On a technical note, the lights--red-green--are reversed. Green goes on the starboard side, red to port. And the daysides on the planets/moons don't match. Same sun, same light, right?

That new explosion and background moons really rock! Actually the running lights were all white on the movie models, yes port is red like port wine :) The scale looks fine to me, as the bird of prey is about as wide as the 1701A. I have wrestled with the POV/scale issue quite a bit and usually put the smaller vessel in the foreground, particularly if it is a lot smaller. First rate choice of POV and special effects!!!

for a constitution class with a 140m dia primary hull, the bop looks rather large to me.
