Description

The North Pinellas Historical Museum is located inside "The Hartley House" in Palm Harbor, Florida. This house is facinating. Well, the couple who built it are facinating. In 1910, Mr. Hartley purchased *one* machine that produced concrete blocks. This machine made three concrete blocks at a time, and they were cured by being left in the sun. Because he was a frugal and patient man, he said there was no point in buying more than one of these machines, so the whole house was built 3 blocks at a time. It took nine years, and in 1919, Ida and Tom Hartley moved in. I wish I could have gotten a shot of the house itself, but due to its proximity to a major road, there is no way to really capture it. So I stayed inside. The piano pictured here is the only remaining interior piece that was owned by the Hartley's. The song book in the photo begins with the song "Closer to Thee".
