Description

Decided to work on this one until I perfect it. It looks very different at 2400x1800 than it does at smaller sizes. I canged the POV a little and took sanpippers suggestion about the surfacing. I have been posting in both Mojo and Vue for those who don't visit there the past week or so. You can see the last version of this in my galley to compare if you like. Suggestions are welcome. Thanks for looking.

I'd suggest to reduce the fractal noise of the red and yellow rock layers and maybe the coverage, too. Then add some sub-layers of the same colours as you find them in your strata file - that makes them blend together more natural. Second suggestion: Try to avoid direct lighting from the back. Surface structures show up better when viewing against the light direction. Keep up your great work!!

Beautiful colors. Try to add a little bit of transparency to the water, it will make it look more "alive"!

Yes, rendering in larger sizes with resizing, compressing and sharpening will almost always improve image quality. Setting point spacing to 30 also helps. Joe, this is a great improvement. Adding the vertical surface to break up the strata also made a great improvement. Try adding several layers over the vertical terrain (with various coverages and colors) to begin improving the natural look. Excellent render!

Agree with Jens about surfaces, he lends some good tips. About back lighting, you can achieve some nice lighting with a low back light like a sunrise. Shadows work better for you that way. Keep trying the back light and you will get there. Here's one I did with back lighting http://buzzzzzart.com/Gallery/Land-and-Sea-03/Serenity_in_Morning_Mist_web Maybe this will give you the idea I'm talking about with the low sun.

Love the surfacing here Joe... you see that you've been working on it, more variation on it. The muddy waters are outstanding as is the POV... excellent work.

Like the added surfacing and have seen rock that looks similar. Well done and still like that muddy water.
