Description
I've been giving a lot of thought to a discussion my wife, a clinical psychologist specializing in adolescents, and I have been having about the fact that children are not allowed to be just children anymore. There are more predators, more pressures, more "evils" afoot in the world than at any other time in history and this makes it a bad place for children.
Tbis is deditcated to my wife, my children, and all those children seeking a safe and secret place to just be children.

I understand where you're coming from, but is there really? Look at 'childhood' in medieval times, or even Victorian, amoungst the poorer classes...kids were working 16 hour shifts in horrendous conditions by the time they were 8 or 9, married & pregnant by 14, no protection and just as many predators - but they had anonymity, money & a lack of public law-enforcement of any kind so who knew? .. but... yeah.. my baby bro & sis have both more and far less freedom than I did and there's only 15 years between us. Love the image - it really sums up the loss of an unfettered childhood. But things aren't all bleak - I was reminded of that only two days ago by two little girls living in my street, who insisted on 'helping' me with my gardening...they reminded me that kids are still kids and there are still chances to laugh and trust.

Well, I love the image. It comes across to me with a sense of serenity and safety. Yes, life through out the ages has not been easy for kids, but we don't have to make it more dificult by telling them all the horrors there are out there. Tell them what to be careful of, give them restrictions on where they can play and can't play and if you can afford it, buy them one of the "kid" cell phones. I wish I'd had a garden like this when I was a kid and I still wish I had one now for my grandchildren, but wishes are like fishes, you can't get them, if you don't try to catch them. (or something like that) As I said, it's a great image and I love it, and as a side note...it looks cool in there as opposed to the heat out here...so HOT here in the Land of OZ. (Kansas)
