beautiful work. have you tried Apophysis? also Mehdi has some outstanding filters for free including a kaleidescope

Yes and yes. Kaleidolicous seems to provide better control over the end results. Although, it does have a random option. All 3 apps are loads of fun fore creating cool abstract images.
