It's amazing how you were able to get so much feeling of something into an image. It really looks like what I imagine a frayed nerve would.

Awesome and effective lighting and shadowplay..and, yes, it resembles a frayed nerve; cool design with all those little gnarled squigglies, and I love the coloring and sense of depth.
