What is an SEM image? It looks like something taken with an extremely powerful microscope. If so, I'd be curious to know what it is we are seeing :-) - Strange and fascinating!

in fact, it is! SEM = "Scanning Electron Microscope" and you are looking at an oxidized sheet of aluminum
