Description

The Sentinel Observatory sits beyond the the edge of the Sol System, beyond even the Oort Cloud, endlessly watching the stars. The souls that man this station are reclusive outcasts and prefer to be left to thier studies, thier only connection to the rest of humanity being the occasional supply shuttle or hypercom transmision, which they don't welcome warmly... I made this image mainly as test bed for new starfield techniqes (special thanks to orbital), and this little bit of backstory popped into my head just a few minuets ago. Click image for full view. Well done ! Sounds like the kind of place where I'd be right at home.

Very "2001: A Space Odyssey"! Lovely render and you've captured the loneliness of deep space very well (at least how I'd imagine it to be!) Well done!

Love it. Love the lighting, and the idea of having a space station out beyond the Oort cloud is AWESOME! I've been thinking of modeling a space station for a Jupiter and Jupiter moons mission, and also one just this side of the Oort cloud, past Pluto, out near Sedna or 2003UB313. Your starfield is superb!
