Description
In the late Middle Ages people started trading. You might say there was an open-market economy. Some struck it rich, the craftsmen (or, workers) remained poor. Society was split. In 1302 the rich Flemings sided with the King of France against the Count of Flanders and the people at the Battle of the Golden Spurs. The French army lost. After the King and his court, here are the rich folks, later to be named the bourgeois. The next picture in this series will depict the poor.
