this is a poor ilistration of an idea I have .this is an asteroid harvester and no I'm not canadian but sence they are the people who designed the robotic arms on the shuttle and sence this ship will be so reliant on the use of robotic arms,they get the flag.but back to the IDEA!
this ship is holding onto cement bolts that where drilled into the asteroid and will have to be moved over and over again as the asteroid is consumed,tipical in this idea here the ship is harvesting ore from a CLASS M asteroid.(many different classes) witch is iron-nickle,but if they need water or other materials they can move around the asteroid belt like a buisy little bee collecting everything they need and also can be produceing sheets of metal that is created by nano vapor formation techniques,AND the ore is extracted useing a laser to break it down and melt it into tiny droplets where in the inclosed chamber against the asteroid (with is not preasurized by the way)
inside the encloser the laser shaft has a tube where the laser runs through and a tube that has a soft rubber flap conveyer belt where the soft rubber flaps simply push the material into the gigantic tanks at the rear of the ship to be evaluated and seperated and processed. all this is happening in ZERO air preasure and ZERO gavity.
I see this as a way to create unlimited resources thats just floating out there for our convenance.maybe a different material than rubber for the soft flaps will be needed sence the material will be hot lol but you get the idea.
