Hello! My name is Jodie. I live in Minnesota where the temps can fluxuate by 20 degrees in one day. Most of my photos have been taken very close to my home, a 10 acre hobby farm., where I raise Alpacas and chickens. I am a band director, a musician/singer and a photographer/adviser on the yearbook committee. My camera of choice is a Nikon. I have a D90 and a D70. I also have a SB800 flash and favorite lens is Nikon 18-200mm AF-S, with VR. Revisiting the visual arts is something I should have done years ago. If I see something remarkable, I just try to capture it. Nobody else will ever see it quite that way again so I hope you try that, too. This is just like expensive therapy for us.  Thank you for visiting and may you have a peaceful day!Â

Fantastic shot -- and what a great frame the archway has made. I see nothing I would have changed.

The tunnel effect is very nice - I suspect you darkened the edges which really enhanced the visual impact. Without knowing what other perspectives were available, I'd say you shot this perfectly. Don't you just love telephoto lenses? They zoom right past those restrictive signs!!! :)
odie
Nope - didn't darken the edges. I only cropped off most of the blackness. The tunnel had a dim lightbulb glowing in the middle which I thought needed to be eliminated.

Not to be contrary, but I don't agree with Andreas.I very much like the sign,as I feel it gives meaning to the shot.I assume they wish to discourage people from entering this lovely place and potentially disturbing the monks who may be contemplation, there.I think the 'tunnel' gives even deeper meaning to this,'tunnels' having symbolic religious connotations,as well. All in all,I'd say this is a very effective composition and wonderfully photographed.-M :^) PS -No ebot for you. :^(

Windsday? I thought this was humpday. #:o/ You wont send hate-mails you say? You promise? Okay....in all honesty...nothing wrong with this at all....just a tiny bit boring. I think its the sign that kinda ruins it for me, as if this was just a documentation for the Monastic Garden website or something. Im not saying its a bad shot, on the contrary (spellcheck the swede)...its a great shot. Perfect POV, i love how the archway framed it, just like duncanlong said. But i think it would have looked more artistic and less like a snapshot without the sign in it. Can i get those hate-mails in IMs instead? Because my email-server can only accept so many. #:oP Have a wonderful windsday...whatever that is.....bla..bla...P.S I just edited after reading Marlenes comment. So thats what the sign means? Well hellooooo then Andreas. I just thought it was some randomly stupid name...i had no idea it referred to monks. Then i totally agree with Marlene, that the sign serves a purpose. There i go being all swedish again, not catching on till its too later...sigh. I shall leave my first comment though since it just gave me more reason to ramble, lol. #:oP

Great composition, Jodie. Since you asked, I think I'd have tried to focus on the sign so that the text was sharper, but perhaps then the DOF would have been too shallow to showcase that lovely brick wall and those beautiful hydrangeas in the background.

beautiful composition love the ivy framing and this charming brick university !!... wonderful !!!
