Description

A hot Saturday night on International drive, up toward the Wet n' Wild end. Florida. ~@~ I had mixed feelings about my two weeks here in the USA. Yes we had fun, exhausting in the heat, but still we enjoyed what we saw and did. However.... The first thing I had to adjust to was the driving ...(on the WRONG side of the road). Piece of cake, having tackled the maniacs on the roads of Italy many times over. But Jeez... you guys like to drive some big machines. Four lanes of huge automatic 4x4's, most of which seem to be on cruise control and oblivious to what else is on the road. Why do you lot over the pond never let anyone change lanes? And what are these big trucks all about? I felt like "Honey I've shrunk the tourist" next to them at the lights! The next thing that I hadn't expected was the massive power comsumption that goes on 24 hours a day. Between the comic size cars, the huge air-conditioning demand, the extent of the city lights at night, the huge numbers of people eating "as much as you like" the power consumption must be hefty and is in your face as soon as you arrive. The theme parks themselves must generate vast energy requirements. The carpark at Magic Kingdom for example can hold twelve thousand cars (big ones at that!). Anyway enough of my whinging, one aspect that was good however was the people. I was surprised by how polite most people are (except the very rude lady at Wet 'n Wild who accused me of stealing her rubber ring. I didn't want to argue with her in-case she was packing a piece!) but everone else was helpful and pleasent and seemed friendly enough. All the same I think we'll be going back to the maniacs in Italy next year! Thanks for viewing and please excuse my rantings.

Love that word "whinging"! Yes, we are compulsive energy hogs but that is due to years of really low priced fuel which has come to a dramatic end and it will be interesting to see how and if we can adjust. As for the wrong side of the road, I might point out that most of the known world is in agreement with us. Come back, we have a big country and lots more to see! Thanks for the great shots of your visit!

You mean on the RIGHT side of the road. Well...one weird thing though, is that when i went to Scotland last year and drove around for a week...it only took me like 1 day to get the hang of it. And the roundabouts seemed alot more logical than ours. And then when i got back home it took me almost 1 week to get back on track even though ive driven on this side of the road all my life...still one week on the WRONG side had such a great impact on me....so when it all comes around....maybe you are RIGHT...and we really are driving on the WRONG side of the road...hmmm....why am i using capital letters when im writing those words? And why am i rambling on about this??? Beautiful nightshot with awesome colors. Yup, that was what i was gonna say...and now ive said it...finally, lol. Have a great one Anthony!!! #:O)

LOL... It was difficult for me stationed 3 years away from home driving on the left side of the road and then returning home to be going on the right side. Talk about scared, lol. Beautiful night lights and hope you enjoyed. Aloha

I drive to Orlando regularly for my job, yes Orange Blossom road is three vast lanes of trucks and SUV's, and did I mention trucks? 18 wheelers are the majority. Orange Blossom road to international parkway...screaming with traffic 24 hours a day. If you were to drive 50 miles in either direction, you would have seen a very different Florida. You were smack dab in the Tourist part of Florida, high maintenance, high energy consumption, high everything you mentioned. Ft. Pierce on the other hand, laid back...Tampa, laid back...St. Augustine (oldest city in the USA) very...very...laid back (and much to see and do without all of the lights!). I hope you come back to Florida to visit, just look for the other parts of Florida and you will not be disappointed. (=

Huge trucks, massive consumptions of energy, driving on the wrong side of the road, welcome to the good ole USA....and we wonder why gas is so fricking high. Sometimes we can be such a wasteful country....main thing is you had a good time and we treated fairly nice...looks like a crowded night here in Florida...too much traffic for me, but a pretty shot...Aloha!
