Baine was the canine companion of the legendary hero Lars Hammerhand. In AD420 Lars was ambushed whilst returning to his village after a successfull campaign. He had with him only a handfull of his best warriors having left ahead of the main force because he was eager to return to home his wife and child. He was greatly outnumbered and forced to retreat into a network of tunnels under the nearby glacier. As the attacking warriors entered the tunnels Baine began to bark. The confusing echos made it impossible for the attackers to know where the sound was coming from and so they decided to split up to search the tunnels. Thus Lars and his companions only encountered small groups of warriors as they moved around the tunnels and easily overcame them. This mask was commisioned by Lars in commemoration of the event after he returned home. TFV&C
