Description

On Wednesday, July 19, 2006, a major storm struck the St. Louis area with category 1 winds. This was soon to be followed by a second storm on Friday, leaving 500,000 homes and businesses without power. I lost power right about the time I took this photo and did not have electricity again until the following Sunday afternoon. Some homes are still without power even as I write this. This picture was taken just after the first storm had ended. I still had no idea of the severity of the storm, and I may not have known yet that my power was out. I was in the backyard trying to capture some of the bloody red sky. Its not the best view, with telephone lines and such in the way, but just as I snapped this shot, a bolt of lightning slashed across the sky and I caught it crisply in the picture. I would be a few days before I got power back and could view the picture though! Li Luyi Cahokia, IL
