Description

In the southeast corner of Rainier National Park is a trail to the Grove of the Patriarchs, which is located on an island in the Ohanapecosh River. This paragraph from an NPS website describes it better than I could: "Isolated on the island and thus protected from fire, the trees have grown to gigantic proportions. In this small area are 20 western red cedars more than 25 feet in circumference; among them is the largest cedar in the Park. There are ten Douglas-firs over 25 feet in circumference; one is 35 feet. The trees are estimated to be nearly 1000 years old." Because I was restricted to the wooden walkway, I couldn't take this as a portrait; the tree was just too big. I had to take it as a landscape just to get it all in the frame.

That ancient tree, and it's neighbouring ones, have lived through times and seen such things as we will never. Magical Dennis, and a most splendid photograph. They must be a splendid sight. Thankyou:-)

Amazing! And I know you have a relatively wide angle lens - Lori and I were commenting last night about your post of Upper Christine Falls and the fact you managed to get it all in one frame. I'm really glad you posted this - and the informative intro was especially helpful to us. We had checked this area on the topo maps recently, but of course, things like this don't show. What a wonderful presentation! Thank you, Dennis!

Wow, this is impressive. Maybe Ken and I can go visit this area when we make our trip north this fall.
