Description
Battersea Power Station was built in 1933 and has been derelict for about 20 years. It is a grade 2 listed structure beside a railway line in London. It is going to be re-developed and will be at the centre of a large shopping centre and leisure complex. It is due to open in 2009.(info from internet sites)
I had never seen it except in the pictures on Pink Floyds Animals album. Yesterday I was on a train going from Sutton to Victoria and I saw it for the first time. The area is still a run down dump and so on the return trip, I grabbed a shot from the train window and created this montage as a tribute to the building. I thought it would be quirky to put it by the sea so it could live up to its name. This is especially for Jim.

I passed this structure many times while living in England. While this is a remarkable structure I thought it a scar on the skyline.I too was very familiar with it also from the "Animals" album. Great image! :B eaver !

Ok I agree, put us a pig up there, the image has a "Floydian" feel to it in some way Im not sure what it is but either way we want the pig :)

So THAT'S where I've seen this before! Funny thing is, the "Animals" CD has been running through my mind all week. This is a sign. Time to go home (it's late Friday afternoon here), pour a glass of red wine, and crank up "Animals". Always wondered what that building was. Excellent work and thanks for the post!

Ok - I pig comin' up - courtesy of Jim Weir - he has very kindly agreed to add one in and he has done a great job very swiftly. His Bryce work is out of this world and he does loads of Floydie images so he was definitely the man for the job!!! Thanks Jim. x0x

What a shame that they could not renovate and re-use the existing structure to accomodate the stores that would occupy the new mall.
