Description

A reusable Shuttlecraft departs an orbiting station over Mars, ferrying crew down to the surface. This is the same model I used for my "Terminal Descent" image. The Mars surface was derived from Mars Orbiting Laser Altimeter data, which was converted to a grayscale map and used to deform a plane. The Shuttle itself is based on a biconic aerobody, one of the many shapes being considered for Mars entry vehicles. The station modules are based on the Boeing Destiny module of the International Space Station. Thanks for taking a look.

Hey, cool! The compositon lends a good sense of claustophia with the orbital equipment - if any of those masses gained some unwanted momentum, there'd be some hell to pay. The color-coded helmets are a great touch. And as always your hardware design is interesting and plausible. The details on the lander feel very functional. And of course your Mars surface is masterfully executed.

This is so nice--it's accurate, yet fun and exciting to look at! That is a hard combination to pull off--I need to go through the rest of your gallery when I have more time, it looks superb!
