I'd like to dedicate this to Antonio (DRAKELOT). He's a wonderful artist and friend... and his stunning modeling skills have inspired me to keep trying to learn modeling :) The above image is showing my attempt at modeling a sword in Hexagon 2.1... my own "Hexcalibur" ;) I haven't learned UV mapping yet, so this was rendered in Vue with one of the metallic textures I found there. To create the above sword, I used a sphere for the pommel (the ball at the back of the handle) and a single cylinder for the rest: hilt, guard and blade... I mostly used the "extrude" and "bridge" tools to get the above results. I basically need the skills to be able to create custom objects for my "Burning Citadels" series (coming back very soon! ;), as well as for "The Kingdoms of Hayr" RPG, which btw will now be a Free standalone game, running on an 'open source' game engine. Intrigued? oh this is great.... what is UVmapping??? i just got max3d yesteday.. and i already see that expretion alot of time in tutorials... would sure love to know what it is ???

Chris, UV Mapping refers to the process of mapping a texture to a 3D object - as in telling your 3D modeling software (in your case, that could be 3D Studio max) which bit of texture goes here, which bit goes there, etc. :)

Kool modelling Sabine, I think the texture on the blade itself should be toned down and stretched in the Z axis, at the moment it looks like a stone or granite tex, maybe a bump map for some notches and scratches ? just a suggestion...LOL & Cheers

Shock and Awe -- I'm impressed! This is an amazing model! And just from two basic figures! Wonderful work Sabine! PS some times ago I stumbled into a link to a tut by Stonemason on texturing (rather advanced, from my POV, but outstanding), maybe You'd like to give it a look? It was on CGSociety, but there's a link in a thread in the Cinema4D forum here at 'Rosity. I could look for it eventually.

Darn it - this is awesome sweetie!! now you just have to model a rock to plug it into and you're done! LOL! ;) I tried playing with hex a bit, but looks like i just can't remember anything anymore about modelling! LOL! Glad to see you are doing fairly nicely about it! ;) I also tried to join the game forum (so i could bug you there too, of course! 8) ), but i put my old mail address! LOL!
